You don’t have to place the hammock beside a pool, but it is recommended. The fabric allows water to quickly move through it without building up. This means you don’t have to worry about mildew or uncomfortable wetness.

2. Mayan

Mayan hammocks are high-quality, strong, and often visually stunning. Their construction allows them to hold a large amount of weight while still keeping things comfortable. 

Mayan hammocks are also very lightweight, so they’re a great option for traveling. They also don’t use spreader bars, but they’re still easy to use despite this.

This hammock is perfect for people who want a durable hammock that is also pretty to look at. 

3. Rope

Rope hammocks are one of the most recognizable types of hammocks around. It’s the classic image of a rope net, lashed between two trees, waiting for someone to climb in and enjoy the day. Rope hammocks are usually made of cotton or polyester ropes.

Since they can be prone to flipping, there’s a spreader bar at either end to keep it flat. You don’t want a rope hammock without the spreader bar. 

Cotton is more comfortable, but polyester lasts longer. You won’t need to worry about mildew or mold with polyester. 

4. Quilted 

Quilted hammocks are probably the second most popular type of hammock behind rope hammocks. These provide significant comfort and are also visually pleasing. 

This hammock is made of two fabric layers stuffed with soft filling. They’re not ideal hammocks for the outdoors since it’s all cloth, but they do make a great bedroom hammock if that’s what you’re interested in.

You can still make a quilted hammock work outdoors, and there are these hammock straps to make sure the job gets done right. 

5. Brazilian

If you’re looking for an aesthetically pleasing option for outdoor and indoor use, consider a Brazilian hammock. These are generally hand-woven and beautiful to look at. They also provide significant comfort in an indoor environment.

They’re made of multiple fibers on a loom which makes them very durable. They don’t include spreader bars either, so they’re easy to travel with. Overall, a Brazilian hammock is great for casual hammock use.
